Mental health in the workplace conference 2025 in Malaysia

Aung Min Thein, founder of Counselling Corner, joined theMental Health in the Workplace Conference 2025 as a panelist to share insights from Myanmar’s unique context.

He highlighted how Myanmar’s conflict landscape impacts employees, making preventive workshops and empathetic HR policies essential. Research shows 54% of the population faces moderate to severe depression, while conscription laws drive young talent abroad — challenges that demand stronger workplace support systems. Counselling Corner’s initiatives include emotional workshops, creative awareness campaigns with companies, and partnerships with Suicide Prevention Myanmar to address burnout, harassment, and suicide prevention.

Aung Min Thein also emphasized on leadership development through Carl Rogers’ person‑centred approach, encouraging managers to listen with empathy and without judgment. Looking ahead, he advocates for ASEAN‑wide cooperation to embed mental safety alongside physical safety, make awareness training compulsory, expand affordable counsellor education, and share experiences across countries to build healthier workplaces.

Professional Counsellor Pathway

We’re delighted to share the highlights from our recent Professional Counsellor Pathway events held in Yangon and Mandalay. We were honoured to host fantastic guest speakers who shared their valuable expertise:
In Mandalay, we heard from Daw Mya Mya Swe, who offered brilliant insights from her 11+ years in counselling. In Yangon, we welcomed Ma Su @ Jan Jan, a highly experienced counsellor dedicated to advancing the mental well-being of people in Myanmar. We also heard inspiring speeches from our lead counsellors, Aung Min Thein, Cherish Pui, and Khin Moh Moh Kyaw who shared their insights and experiences.
A special milestone from these events was the launch of our Credential Card system. In this event, members receive a card that reflects their professional development level within the Pathway, a tangible symbol of their professional growth and commitment to professional standards in Myanmar. Meeting our community face-to-face to discuss the future of the Pathway and explore opportunities for growth was truly inspiring. Together, we reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening mental health support in Myanmar and to building sustainable pathways for counsellors at every stage of their journey. If you’re a counsellor, a student in training, or a seasoned professional in Myanmar, we warmly invite you to join us in shaping this future and seizing new opportunities for collaboration. Find more details on this arrection system for Myanmar counsellor on this webpage: https://counsellingcornermyanmar.com/professional-counsellor-pathway/

A simple guide to self-awareness

Self awareness is the skill of looking at your thoughts, feelings, and values as if you were an “outside observer.” It helps you see how these inner feelings shape the way you act. For example: If someone interrupts you and you feel angry, self-awareness helps you  Knowing this stops you from lashing out and hurting your relationships. Self-awareness is the foundation of wellbeing. By practicing it, you take control of your life. Start small today—perhaps by taking one deep breath and simply noticing how you feel.

Seit Mate Swe is across the city

We would like to share an update on our community programme, “Seit Mate Swe” which is Co-funded by the European Union, through a multi-sectoral programme in Myanmar. Seit Mate Swe is a program that trains people to become a professional counsellor and work under supervision of senior counsellors and the program provides free individual and group counselling through a voucher system.

To help support our community, get people to take care of their own mental well-being and especially create more awareness, we have placed mental health tips at 50 bus stops and street signs throughout Yangon. These posters offer simple, practical advice on how to stay mentally strong during your daily commute and have a QR code to make an appointment for free counselling. By bringing these tips in the streets, we hope to provide a moment of calm and support during your busy day. Keep an eye out for them next time you are travelling! A big thanks to FMI Decaux for supporting this awareness campaign.

Mental health and pychosocial support

Play Date for children

In this day, children are spending more and more time on phones and computer screens, which not only causes them to become distant from family members and friends but also results in less physical activity.

To overcome these challenges, allow us to introduce our special program called Play Date. This programme is specially designed for children aged 5 to 15 years old.

Clay Workshop

This workshop is a powerful way to express oneself. It is known to be therapeutic and allow participants to show their ideas and thoughts freely without the use of words and can extend attention span, build imagination and boost self-esteem. As researched, these therapies can reduce trauma, depression, anxiety, and tension, as well as enhance the emotional, spiritual, cognitive, and physical well-being. This workshop is funded by the European Union, through a multi-sectoral programme in Myanmar.
