In the Month of Love, There Is a Space for Everyone

As we enter February, the air is filled with preparations for Valentine’s Day and conversations about love. While many couples are busy selecting gifts and planning romantic gestures, we recognise that for those who are single, this season can sometimes feel a little isolating. However, at Counselling Corner, we believe that the “Month of Love” should be about more than just romantic status. It is an opportunity to look closer at how we connect both with others and with ourselves.

Understanding how we love

In any relationship, we often assume our partner feels our love simply because we are giving it. But are we truly “speaking” the same language? Real connection goes beyond surface-level romance. It is built on Active Listening and Self-compassion. When we learn to listen deeply and understand our own needs, we can ensure our love is not just given, but truly felt. It is about building a bridge of understanding that lasts much longer than a single day.

Being alone is not being unlovable

For many, this time of year can bring feelings of loneliness or a sense that something is missing. It is easy to fall into the trap of thinking that being on your own means there is something “wrong”, or that you aren’t worthy of connection. Being alone is simply a state of being; it is never a reflection of your worth. It is important to hold space for loneliness without judging it or feeling like you need to “fix” yourself. We encourage you to nurture kindness towards yourself, learning to be your own best friend.

From Colour to Comics – Expressing Mental Health through Art

Self awareness is the skill of looking at your thoughts, feelings, and values as if you were an “outside observer.” It helps you see how these inner feelings shape the way you act. For example: If someone interrupts you and you feel angry, self-awareness helps you  Knowing this stops you from lashing out and hurting your relationships. Self-awareness is the foundation of wellbeing. By practicing it, you take control of your life. Start small today—perhaps by taking one deep breath and simply noticing how you feel.

Our community programme, Seit Mate Swe is launching a 9-panel comic art competiton to raise mental health awareness through art.

The campaign, titled “From Colour to Comics – Expressing Mental Health through Art,” aims to bridge the gap between creative storytelling and mental wellbeing. As part of this initiative, we will be providing a free workshop for all participants, led by our founder and psychotherapist, Aung Min Thein. This workshop is designed to provide artists with clear conceptual ideas and a deeper understanding of mental health themes to inspire their work. Understanding the Wounded Inner Child

“Wounded Inner Child” refers to the emotional part of our subconscious that holds onto unmet needs from childhood—such as the need for safety, love, and understanding—as well as painful past experiences. These old wounds often quietly influence almost every part of our adult lives, including our relationships, decisions, and behaviours. These are 10 Common Signs of a Wounded Inner Child in Adulthood.

How many of these signs do you recognise in yourself or someone you know?
If you relate to these points, please remember that it is not your fault. You can heal these childhood wounds and build a healthier, happier adult life. We encourage you to speak with a professional to begin your journey of healing.
